Isn’t it wonderful when you can just call on the stuff you need and the magical incantation will somehow flew them over to you? This is particularly useful for someone as forgetful and imaginative as me – if I try to remember where I had last put my stuff, I could portray it laying around just about anywhere.

Since the last time I checked magic only works on Harry Potter books and Hogwart’s Magical School of Wizardry (hello Rika!!!!) , the next solution is more probable. In the next few years, who knows? Google had already mapped our way around, write the pages of our school papers, and even provide the ultimate copy and paste dictionary for programming assignments. Maybe tomorrow they’ll also index the position of your things.

And, as Mr. Brett Gibson had said, that’s when Google will really change the world.

Just one letter less. Arrgh… this is killing me.

The huge hole is that there’s no longer the people I hung out with, my comfort circle. They’re already on their path to their future while I’m still trapped in -as somebody had named it: sadomasochistic- troublesome way of graduating. I am currently writing my undergrad thesis, in which every word is a torture. I know I had to do it one way or another, but every piece of me wants to just skip it.

I laughed it off, voicelessly.

But I know that what he said is true. One day he would have to know about it.

After blogwalking to Febrian‘s site, I decide to give it a go – funny result, considering I chose “agnostic” in the input form.

This is the last part of a long dream.

Today is the last day in Erfurt. Yesterday Yudha, Dewi, Christian, and I went to Wanbao buffet restaurant, and yep – we had a crazy lunch. It started off with Peking Goulaschsuppe with fried duck mixed in – the fried duck tasted really wonderful… It’s a packed day at Wanbao, and the crunchy fried duck flew off the tray almost as soon as it arrives. Plates of sushi, fried rice, crinkled fries, fried chicken strips, Szechwan stir fry and more fried duck later, my stomach was on the brink of overflowing Nevertheless, I still drill a cup of vanilla-strawberry-longans-jelly-and-fried banana balls glazed with honey and sesame seeds into my now resembling Buddha’s belly. After paying up, the waitress gave us fortune cookies. My strip of fortune cookies’ read : “Sie sind stark, wenn sie stark sind.” You are strong, if you are strong. I can’t decide whether or not it’s Zen wisdom or simply uninspired writer running out of good luck sentences to write. The meal was ended with a little fishy transaction of which the old man on the next table unabashedly stare at, exchanging Rupiah into Euro just to buy some chocolate and last minute gifts, including stamps and multivitamin (Sorry, Coro, I didn’t manage to buy the German shirt…).

With enough food to keep me full for at least a couple of days, afterwards we took a trip through Erfurt, for one last time – through Petersberg, the city fortress, and the old town. Throughout the trip I was full of my own thoughts, all that I have to say goodbye to. Man, I’m gonna miss the howling wind and cold weather. I cursed on them whenever I had to walk through howling wind on nights without gloves, but as I thought of the heavy monsoon rain and stinging heat of Bandung – I really feel I’m gonna miss them.

The night ended after the last supper (yeah, our stomachs are full, but Yudha’s pasta is simply too tempting to say no to) with the assorted pasta (gnocchi with cheese filling, mmm… lecker lecker, penne, macaroni) with basil and tomato sauce and Czechish and German sausage mixed in. We went home, said our goodbyes, walking through Erfurt’s streets. Anger was empty, even though it’s Saturday night. Several taxi waits for passengers returning drunk from nightclubs. Fortunately we came just in time for the Strassenbahn ride home – otherwise we would have to wait for half an hour or walk home – of which we usually do the latter.

I came home to write this blog, and finish up my last bit of packing. The long journey home begins in 6 hours.

I’m counting my last days here : today’s Wednesday, and on Sunday I will be flying back to Indonesia. So, I’ve still got roughly three days, save for Sunday – cause we will be on 3,5 hours car ride to Frankfurt, from where we will take the 21-hour flight back to equator. Dewi, my exchange-student mate, happily counts down on each passing day to the departure date, but I cannot seem to have the same excitement. Not because I don’t wanna come home, but somehow the depressive mood of these days has seemingly numbed down my spirit.

The big problem I’m facing now is financial – frankly, I am broke. I still have enough money to survive these last few days, but since there’s still gifts (baca : oleh-oleh) to some people that have reflected interest through instant messaging, and that really weighs me down. Not that I don’t want to give gifts – I normally have been uncalculating when it comes to belongings or gifts, nor that I have bought nothing for gifts but I am simply too broke to buy anything other than the bare neccessities.

And the other one is the grim prospect of Final Project ahead. I’ve already left it out for 4 months now, and it’s about time something inevitable should happen. So I when open my Final Project document this morning, the cursor blinked. And blinked. And I open Mozilla Firefox immediately. Procrastination has always been my weak point, so whenever I had the opportunity to do something else, I will gladly take it (this blog article included ). I have even gone as far as isolating myself in the library without internet (wow! no internet! for a full 5 hours!) just to keep me on document revising. Had I not been in Germany, I would have never done that ).

As for what I have done in Germany – hmm, let’s see… I’ve done a project called KlusterPlatz, it is essentially a mammoth   document clustering program consisting of Riza’s, Andri’s and Dije’s final project, plus some of my own. (I’m sorry, Audi, I didn’t have the chance to mix yours in as well.) I have gone on quite some trips : Berlin, Frankfurt, Leipzig-Dresden, and Munich in Germany alone, as well as Barcelona with Tandem students and to Amsterdam, Den Haag and Paris with the Existente gang. (Geez, no wonder I’m so broke >:))  I have learned some German, made some friends from other corners of the planet in the language classes. (And lost some as well.) I fell in love with new languages, I want to learn even more. I’ve become more headstrong and independent (and sometimes spiteful as well). I’ve made some self-discovery journeys. I’ve come to realize what a big sacrifice my father has made for me, and thereby it has also shed some light on what I want to be and what I am going to do next in my life. I am, and will always be, greatly indebted to him. Even though we never really spoke about it.

That, in a short incoherent unparagraph, sums up my whole semester in Germany. I will undoubtedly write some more on them before the precious memory on my brain is overwritten with something else more immediate.

Not exactly the way I had daydreamed it to be, but I don’t regret anything.

Why do you blog? I mean, if you do have one, you probably know your answer already. If you don’t, uh, well, you could start one if you like. But seriously, why do people blog? Is it the same thing as writing diaries or journal? Well, basically, no, cause you’re writing to the whole world (I just found out that you could set WordPress blog only accessible to your authenticated friends, but that’s another story).

Some people can easily write whatever they had in mind, thoughts, or even private history. You could sometimes fish out a lot of personal information just by reading entries in a blog. It’s great when you can keep your friends and casual onlookers updated on you, but it’s another thing to have stalkers reading your mind — that is, if anyone is interested to stalk you in the first place. I’ve read somewhere if you want to be a good blogger, you have to be really self-absorbed. Is it because bloggers should feel that everything they write is important? Or is it because you have to spend some time exclusively focused on your thoughts and writing it out loud? I wonder why.

Blogs can also be similar to newspaper columns, commenting on something like politics or tecchnology, but seriously, haven’t we got enough of them already?

So if you can’t really shed your inner thoughts and you’re not going to start a sanitized blog, why do you blog? Uh, well, for me, I want to start blogging all over again because I want to remember. These days it’s really hard to keep track of what I’ve been doing for the last, uh, almost 23 years. I can’t seem to remember even what I’d done a week ago. Not that it’s very important for me to know my grocery list for the past couple of years – but it sure would be interesting to keep track of whatever it is I’m gonna be doing. The thought has rankled me for quite a while, although it has never materialize into anything, until sometime ago I talked with Sandy. When he asked me about my recollections about Germany, my mind turned blank. I had nothing to think of. Really. I’m kinda sad because I start this on the last days of my semester in Europe, but I guess I would have to start somewhere, don’t I?

I still am horrified to imagine my inner thoughts laid bare for everyone else to see, so I don’t think I will be writing everything I intended to. And as for these private thoughts, uh, the truth is, I have another blog for that.
